In most of the cases when the computer is running very slow or just lagging all the time can run again at lightning speed by just a boost of ram. Because you’re simply not heavy memory eating program would not stop because of a slow processor. A quick boost of ram can fix the issue.
Do you require more than 4GB of RAM?
- Follow this points to determine whether you need it or not
- If you are just an ordinary user, use your computer for basic browsing, chatting or to watch YouTube then you should be good with 2GB of memory, but if your computer is still slowing down then have a look at resource monitor and kill unnecessary processes.
- If you don’t use any designing apps like Photoshop or Adobe premiere then you don’t require more than 3 to 4 GB of ram.
- If you are a hardcore gamer or do high-level editing and video rendering then you should upgrade your ram to the limit of your device and budget. But always note that such heavy ram requires the 64bit operating system for its full impact.
How much RAM do you have? And how much can you upgrade?
In windows it’s pretty simple, you can right click on my computer/ This PC and properties, and there you will find all the computer specifications.
In MAC computer you can click on the apple logo in the upper left corner and then about this MAC. Click on memory tab and you can find the ram installed.
Now the main part checking the capacity of your computer’s memory is little tricky.
In Mac pcs you can just check the serial number and use online mac look up websites which provides you all details about your Mac devices including memory pre-installed and supported. For window computer check the model number of your device and look up the respective website of the particular brand and there you can find the capacity of your device.
How to replace the RAM?
In windows laptops, mostly you will find 2 screws on the back holding a small cover for ram slots, just loosen up the screws and you can easily access the ram slot area. Here you can find 2 small clamps on the sides to loosen ram and put new ram inside. Here main part to consider is that never force the ram into the computer if it’s not fitting properly then just pull it out and try again. If you force the ram into the computer then it can either damage the ram or the slots itself.
In Mac laptops, you need to unscrew all the screws on the back and the whole casing on the back would come out and there you can see the slots right up to the battery, same as windows Pcs you can easily change the Rams there as well.
