Macbook not starting properly? How to repair your Apple computer easily
No computers are resistant from a software and hardware failure. A MAC computer can just stop responding to power button sometimes or sometimes MAC OSX software may crash too. In case if your MAC is not responding when you try to turn it on through power button. Or maybe its responding but not booting up normally then check the recovery section here.
Ensure It Has Power
Make sure that your MAC is properly plugged to the power source. Try switching the charger with a new one or just try changing the power cord. The problem might be in the power outlet itself so try hooking the charger up in a different power outlet. If the last you used battery was all dead then you may need to wait after plugging the charger in for the battery to hold the charge as it will not simply start upon connecting the charger.
Check the Hardware
If you have an iMac or A Power MAC computer won’t start at all then check all the cables connected to the back is properly connected. For example, if you have a MAC mini then you may check the video cable on both screen and MAC mini side if it’s properly seated.
If it doesn’t work then unplug your MAC device and release it from all the cords. Try connecting all the basic cables required and try starting again. If you recently upgraded the RAM or Hard Drive then you may try removing and plugging back the new hardware or may just try plugging the old hardware in and check if it works.
Perform a Power-Cycle
If your computer froze in the middle of some work and it’s just not responding to the power button or any keys on the keyboard then try holding the power button for 10 seconds and. If your Mac is in a running state then it will cut the whole power and restart your MAC.
On older MacBook models if the battery is accessible on back then unplug the battery and plug it back in. On Desktop models simply remove the power cord, wait for 10 seconds and then plug it back in.
Reset the System Management Controller Firmware
If you have tried above all the steps and still need help then your last stop would be the SMC-System Management Controller Reset.
If it’s not responding to power button…
- On new MacBook variants with a non-removable battery. Plug the charging cable in and then press Shift+Control+Option keys at the same time and then the power button. Hold all the buttons down and release all 4 buttons at the same time then immediately press the power button.
- On older MacBook with a detachable battery, remove the power cord then remove the battery and then hold down the power button for 5 seconds. Then leave the power button and plug in the battery and try turning it on
- If you have a MAC Desktop then remove the power cable and keep it outside for 15 seconds and then plug it back in and press the power key to turn it on.
Use Disk Utility from Recovery Mode
If your MAC is booting up but the operating system is not loading then it might be a software issue or might be a hard drive issue. Try fixing such problems from recovery.
To open MAC recovery, while starting the computer press Command + R. Try pressing these keys instantly as your MAC plays the apple chime. Mac recovery menu should open, if not then try restarting and pressing the keys again.
Once in recovery menu, click on Disk utility and then first aid, try repairing the MAC hard drive. Disk utility will run FSCK-File System Check. If it doesn’t work then you may need to reinstall the operating system on your Mac.
You can use many options in disk utility. Choose “Reinstall OS X” in recovery to download the latest OS files and do the installation.
If none of these has worked then it must be a hardware issue. Consult a professional Mac repair service to look into your MAC. If your Mac is not repairable then you should consult Mac Data recovery services near you to At least get the data pulled out.
